General Information

River rafting with the folks at Kumsheen Rafting Resort is one of the most exciting and affordable adventures available in beautiful British Columbia today.”

Take a Virtual Tour of the Kumsheen Resort.

The Kumsheen Resort is situated in the spectacular White Canyon, approximately 6 km from Lytton, BC.  Perched on our private 15-acre flat above the Thompson River, the Kumsheen Resort is unique in the rafting industry and allows guests to enjoy some of the finest whitewater rafting in Canada, then return to a luxury base and enjoy our accommodation, services and amenities.

Beautifully landscaped with flower gardens, a cascading waterfall, lots of cool, green grass, and our on-site herb and vegetable gardens, most of the Resort overlooks White Canyon, a dramatic, rugged canyon of white spires, hoodoos and rock formations.

The snow-covered peaks of the Coast Mountains can be seen in the distance – this is one of British Columbia’s beautiful and scenic areas.

Lytton is known as one of the warmest and driest places in Canada, so it’s the perfect climate for either whitewater rafting or lounging around our outdoor pool.  Cactus, sage brush, bunch grass, and ponderosa pine dominate this semi-arid desert. July and August have average daily highs of 28 °C, with temperatures sometimes climbing to 42 °C (108 °F).

Accommodation

Accommodation options at the Resort include luxurious Canvas Cabins and Teepees, RV sites, or tenting and camping in the family-oriented campground.

We expect responsible and considerate behaviour from our guests; for everyone’s benefit, quiet time is 11 pm. If our quiet time is not suitable for you or your group, we will gladly refer you to another campsite in the vicinity.

Teepees

How many people can say they’ve slept in a teepee?  Our teepees make for a truly unforgettable experience.  Kumsheen has taken the personality of Anishinabe-style teepees and equipped them with solid floors, beds, cosy duvets, linen and towels.

Canvas Cabins

The Resort has white canvas cabins, fully furnished with antiques, historical memorabilia and two double beds (covered in cosy duvets), and built with wooden floors, decks and framed walls.  A propane lantern illuminates the interior with a warm glow after dark.  Linen and towels are provided.

RV & Tent Sites

Friendly and family-oriented, the campground reflects our Resort’s amiable theme.  Each campsite is suitable for four people and two tents; some group sites are also available.  We also have a handful of RV sites with 30-amp service.

“The beautiful resort, just outside Lytton, is perched on the Thompson River across from the grandiose White Canyon. Kumsheen is like an oasis in one of the most beautiful areas in Canada – and in summer, one of the driest and hottest areas. It’s clean and dry, with a wonderful aroma of ponderosa pines, western grasses and a hint of sagebrush.” — Paul Bucci, Vancouver Sun

Activities

In addition to rafting tours, we also offer mountain biking, rock climbing, and whitewater kayak tours, all based out of our Resort.

Other popular activities are relaxing around the swimming pool and hot tub, enjoying a massage in our massage room, and meeting new friends at our poolside bar.

Other amenities at the Resort include three separate beach volleyball courts, tetherball, two horseshoe courts, a three-on-three basketball court, two communal group campfire areas, the Pine Tree Meadows nine-hole disc golf course, hiking and desert-plant interpretive trails, an on-site mountain bike course and nearby cross-country/downhill trails, board games, and giant outdoor chess.

Kumsheen also proudly presents the Summer Music Series:  every Saturday from mid-July to the end of August, talented musicians perform at the poolside gazebo.  Past artists include Dustin Bentall, Kendel Carson, Paul Filek and Ryan McAllister.

Resort Amenities

The Kumsheen Resort centres around the Resort Office, which features a fireplace lounge, specialty coffee bar, reservations and check-in area, and retail shop, and modern, clean washrooms, change-rooms, and hot showers.  In the retail shop there is an attractive assortment of outdoor wear such as fleece, thermals, t-shirts, caps, souvenirs and just about anything you’ll need for your stay at the Resort.  OurTrip Videos and Photos can also be seen in the Resort Office after your trip.

The swimming pool and hot tub are the most used amenities at the Resort.  On three separate levels (the pool and lounge-chair level, hot-tub level, and poolside bar level), the entire area is well landscaped and was designed to provide dramatic views of White Canyon from your seat in the hot tub or pool.

The Cutting Board Restaurant is situated between the Resort Office and the swimming pool and is an indoor-outdoor sunroom-style restaurant.  With large log posts, exquisite French-style patio doors, and lots of greenery, the open-air

Cutting Board Restaurant offers epicurean delights.  A woodstove heats the indoor section of the restaurant and the outdoor patio looks out over our waterfall feature, flower gardens, and White Canyon.
